Single-channel bipolar stepper motor driver based on the MP6603 IC, supporting microstepping down to 1/8 step and operating with a motor supply voltage of 8–55 V. The module can deliver up to approximately 2 A continuous current per phase without additional cooling and up to 4 A peak. It features adjustable current limiting via a potentiometer and a control interface compatible in many applications with popular A4988 driver carriers. This version includes factory-soldered header pins, allowing direct connection to breadboards or sockets compatible with A4988 modules. Pololu 5691
The Pololu MP6603 Stepper Motor Driver Carrier is designed to control one bipolar stepper motor. The module is based on the MP6603 dual H-bridge driver from Monolithic Power Systems, enabling motor control in full-step, half-step, 1/4-step, and 1/8-step modes. The STEP/DIR control interface simplifies integration with microcontrollers and CNC controllers, while the pinout and control method remain compatible with the popular A4988 driver format in many applications, making it easier to replace existing drivers.

The driver operates with a motor supply voltage from 8 V to 55 V and can deliver about 2 A continuous current per phase without a heat sink or forced airflow, depending on supply voltage and cooling conditions. The maximum peak current per phase is up to 4 A. The current limit is set using an on-board potentiometer, allowing the driver to be matched to the motor specifications and enabling the use of higher supply voltages than the motor’s rated voltage to achieve higher step rates.
The driver includes built-in protection against under-voltage, over-voltage, over-current, and over-temperature conditions. An integrated voltage regulator removes the need for a separate logic power supply. The module works directly with 3.3 V and 5 V logic systems, while the SLEEP, ENBL, M1, and M2 inputs allow configuration of the operating mode and microstep resolution. In this version of the module, header pins are factory-soldered, allowing the driver to be used without soldering and making it easy to connect to breadboards or A4988-compatible sockets.
