Oak-1 is a comprehensive machine vision solution. It has an integrated 12 MP camera module and communicates via an embedded 2.1 Gbps MIPI interface directly with the Myriad X, which takes the data and performs neural inference on it, returning the results via USB. This data path relieves the host processor of all this work. In a typical use case of object detection from a 12 MP image, this means that the host is now dealing with a 24 Kbps stream of information about what the objects are and where they are in the image, instead of a 2.1 Gbps video stream. This means a reduction in the amount of data to be processed of 87,500. This allows the Oak-1 to be used even with host modules with relatively low processing power.
