A miniature lidar distance sensor that detects objects up to 25 cm away, regardless of color, transparency, or lighting. It generates a digital signal (0 V on detection), operates in the 3-5.5 V range, draws only 30 mA, and supports sleep mode via the ENABLE pin. Ideal for robotics, automation, and contactless interfaces, it offers a fast response time (100 Hz), switching hysteresis, and a compact housing with an indicator LED. Pololu 5480
The miniature proximity sensor based on lidar technology enables object detection at distances of up to 25 cm. It generates a digital output signal that switches to a low state (0 V) when an object is within its field of view. Otherwise, the output remains high (equal to the supply voltage). Thanks to lidar technology, the sensor's operation is unaffected by color, transparency, or ambient lighting.
The sensor precisely measures the return time of emitted laser light pulses (940 nm), making it significantly more accurate than traditional reflective sensors. No direct contact with the object is required, which increases the durability and reliability of the entire system. The minimum detection range is less than 1 mm, allowing accurate detection of very close obstacles. Thanks to the built-in hysteresis at the detection range boundary, state switching occurs smoothly without signal chatter.

The sensor operates within a voltage range of 3 to 5.5 V, enabling easy integration with popular microcontroller platforms. Typical current consumption is 30 mA during operation and only 0.4 mA in sleep mode. The ENABLE pin allows the sensor to be switched into low-power mode. The device features a side-mounted 3-pin JST SH connector, compatible with ready-made JST SH cables, allowing for quick prototyping. Additionally, the board includes an LED indicator that lights up when an object is detected, providing visual confirmation of operation.
The sensor can be used as an alternative to photocells, light barriers, or classic touchless buttons. It is ideal for mobile robotics as an obstacle sensor or a touchless user interface component. It can also serve as a counter or presence detector in home and industrial automation. Its small size allows installation in hard-to-reach areas. With a wide temperature range and reliable design, the sensor is suitable for both prototypes and final applications. The high refresh rate (100 Hz) ensures fast reaction to changes in the environment.
