Distance sensor module based on STMicroelectronics sensor VL53L1X. The sensor used works in time-of-flight technology. The actual measuring range of the sensor is 4-400 cm, while maintaining a resolution of 1 mm. Thanks to the use of laser light in the sensor, distance measurement is reliable and precise. It is also possible to detect hand gestures thanks to a 16x16 measurement matrix. Communication with the sensor and its configuration takes place via the I2C bus. In addition to power pins, communication bus pins, the module also has an input that disables the sensor and the interrupt output. The pads were made in 2.54 mm pitch, which means that the module can be easily connected to a standard universal or prototype board.

There is also a voltage stabilizer on the module board that enables the sensor to be supplied with voltage from the range of 2.6-5.5 V. The sensor requires up to 2.8V to work properly. The built-in regulator can supply other systems in the application. Its performance is 150 mA, the voltage is available on the VDD pin. The technical documentation does not give a minimum distance value for the VL53L1X sensor, while the tests show a minimum limit of 4 cm.

The module is supplied with a cover (yellow foil) protecting the sensor from damage. It must be removed before the first use. Otherwise, the measurement results may be incorrect.

The module is also available in a version with a VL53L0X sensor with a range of 3-200 cm.
