TCS34303 ambient color sensor breakout providing CIE XYZ and infrared measurements through four optical channels. It communicates over I2C, supports 3.3V and 5V logic and includes STEMMA QT / Qwiic connectors. Adafruit 6479
The color sensor breakout Adafruit TCS3430 / TCS34303 uses the TCS34303 device to measure light using channels corresponding to CIE XYZ components together with an infrared channel. Unlike conventional RGB sensors, the device provides raw measurements from channels designed for color-space analysis, making it suitable for systems that use application-specific calibration.
The sensor uses optical channels centered at approximately 437nm for X1, 574nm for X2, 537nm for Y and 434nm for Z. The output consists of raw measurement values, so accurate color representation requires calibration against a reference color analyzer or known light source. The module can be used for color sensing, illumination monitoring, light-source analysis and projects using custom XYZ conversion algorithms.
Communication is provided through the I2C interface. The Adafruit breakout includes support circuitry for operation with both 3.3V and 5V logic systems. Two STEMMA QT / Qwiic connectors allow solderless connection and easy integration into an existing I2C bus.
Arduino and CircuitPython/Python libraries are available for reading XYZ and IR measurement data. The module is intended primarily for applications requiring raw sensor data rather than directly calculated CIE coordinates or lux values.
