Description

QTRX-MD-01A-S Reflectance Sensor is a compact and high-precision reflectance sensor designed by Pololu for measuring light reflected from nearby surfaces. It features an IR LED and a phototransistor arranged for accurate detection of surface reflectivity changes. With integrated lenses, the sensor offers excellent sensitivity while maintaining minimal current consumption, making it ideal for applications such as robotics, production line object detection, and line-follower robots. It operates over a wide voltage range of 2.9 V to 5.5 V, with LED brightness adjustable independently of supply voltage, allowing flexible adaptation to various lighting conditions. The sensor provides an analog voltage output proportional to the reflected light intensity, simplifying integration with microcontrollers equipped with ADC inputs. The optimal sensing distance is 10 mm, but highly reflective surfaces can be detected at distances up to 30 mm.

Thanks to its compact size and lightweight design, the module can be easily installed in tight spaces and lightweight mobile platforms. This model features a side-mounted 4-pin JST SH connector, compatible with SparkFun Qwiic and Adafruit STEMMA QT cables (though not using the I²C interface), enabling quick, solder-free connections. The QTRX-MD-01A-S is ideal for line detection, edge sensing, distance measurement, or object presence detection systems. Its high accuracy and low power consumption (max. 5 mA) make it perfect for battery-powered projects.
