IMU module based on the Bosch BHI385, integrating a 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis gyroscope and a 32-bit ARC EM4 processor for sensor data processing. Bosch BSX sensor fusion provides outputs including 3D orientation, step counting, tap detection and wrist gesture recognition without requiring these calculations to be performed by the host microcontroller. Description

The module uses the Bosch BHI385 with a 3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis gyroscope, complemented by a 32-bit ARC EM4 (Fuser2) processor running Bosch BSX sensor fusion firmware. The IC can directly provide virtual sensor data, including 3D orientation, step counting, tap detection and wrist gesture recognition. The accelerometer measurement range can be configured in software to ±4 g, ±8 g, ±16 g or ±32 g, while the gyroscope supports ranges from ±125 dps to ±2000 dps. The module is suitable for wearable devices, motion recognition systems, gesture controllers and projects requiring orientation tracking.

Communication with the microcontroller is handled via I2C at up to 400 kHz, with the default 0x29 address configurable to 0x28 using the JP5 solder jumper. The board operates from a 3.3 V supply and includes an LDO regulator that provides the 1.8 V required by the BHI385, as well as an I2C logic-level converter between the 3.3 V and 1.8 V domains. Two Qwiic connectors allow solderless connection, while the manufacturer provides an Arduino library for accessing data generated by the sensor.
