An efficient step-down converter that steps down the input voltage from as low as 45 V to a regulated output voltage range of 1.4 to 7 V, offering high efficiency and a maximum continuous current of 3.4 A. It has built-in reverse polarity, overload and short circuit protection, and the spread spectrum function reduces EMI interference. Pololu 4873
The D30V30 module is a high-performance buck (step-down) voltage converter that reduces input voltage to a lower value within the range of 1.4 V to 7 V. The device supports input voltages up to 45 V, and thanks to switching (SMPS) technology, it is significantly more efficient than linear voltage regulators, especially with large input-to-output voltage differences. The converter can provide a continuous output current of 1 A to 4.5 A, depending on the voltage levels. It also includes multiple protection features, such as reverse polarity protection (up to 40 V), overvoltage protection, overload protection, and short-circuit protection. Additionally, the thermal shutdown function prevents overheating, while the soft-start feature limits inrush current and smoothly increases output voltage during startup.
The device has six pins: power good (PG), enable (EN), input voltage (VIN), output voltage (VOUT), and two ground (GND) terminals. The PG output signals when the output voltage exceeds permissible deviations, while the EN pin allows the module to switch to low-power mode.
The converter features high efficiency, ranging from 80% to 95% depending on load conditions and input/output voltages. It operates with a switching frequency of approximately 700 kHz and supports a power-saving mode at low loads. Thanks to the spread spectrum function, it reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI). The module has a compact design and includes a mounting hole compatible with M2 screws. With a standard 2.54 mm pin spacing, it can be easily integrated with breadboards and other prototyping systems.
