Description

The device BME688 Environmental Sensor by Soldered is an environmental and air quality sensor breakout board designed for simultaneous measurement of temperature, relative humidity and atmospheric pressure as well as air quality analysis. The onboard Bosch BME688 uses a heated metal-oxide gas sensor that responds to substances including volatile organic compounds (VOCs), volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs), carbon monoxide and hydrogen.

The temperature measurement range is -40 to 85°C with an accuracy of ±1°C, relative humidity can be measured from 0 to 100% RH with an accuracy of ±3% RH, while atmospheric pressure can be measured from 300 to 1100hPa with an accuracy of ±1hPa. Pressure data can also be used for approximate altitude estimation. When combined with Bosch BSEC software, gas sensor data can be processed into air quality indicators such as IAQ, CO₂ equivalent and bVOC values.

Communication with the module is handled through I2C at frequencies up to 3.4MHz. The default device address is 0x76, with the option to change it to 0x77. Two Qwiic / easyC / STEMMA QT connectors allow quick solderless connections, while VCC, GND, SDA and SCL pins also support conventional wired connections. The breakout board is designed to work with both 3.3V and 5V systems.

The BME688 is compatible with Bosch BME AI-Studio, allowing custom models to be created for recognizing characteristic gas patterns in selected applications. Soldered provides libraries for Arduino and MicroPython. The board measures 38 × 22mm, features mounting holes suitable for M3 screws and is compatible with breadboards.
