Description

Module with a 3-channel distance sensor based on the OPT3101 chip by Texas Instruments. Unlike conventional infrared sensors, which use the intensity of the reflected light to estimate the distance to an object, the module emits 940 nm infrared light at a frequency of 10 MHz, and then measures the phase (delay) of the reflected signal, which corresponds to the measured distance.

The board has three channels each covering approximately 50° to 60°, giving the sensor a wide field of view (FOV). Under favorable conditions, the sensor can measure objects at a distance of up to 1 m. Distance measurements are available via the I²C interface, which is also used to configure the sensor. The board can be powered with the voltage from 2.5 V to 5.5 V. The stabilizer supplies a logic voltage of 3.3 V to the OPT3101, and the built-in voltage level converter adjusts the I²C clock and data lines to the same logic voltage level as VIN, thanks to which it is easy to connect the board with 3.3V or 5V systems.
