This set of two quadrature encoders for 20D extended-shaft motors provides precise rotational speed monitoring with 20 pulses per motor revolution. The devices utilize magnetic disc and Hall-effect sensors operating from 2.7-18V, and the digital outputs can be connected directly to a microcontroller. The encoders mount directly to the back of the motor, and the compact design and 6-pin JST PH connectors facilitate integration into robotic projects and control systems. Pololu 5661
A set of two quadrature encoders designed for 20D motors with a metal gearbox (requires the extended-shaft version). The system uses a magnetic disc and Hall sensors to provide 20 pulses per motor shaft revolution. The sensors operate at voltages from 2.7 V to 18 V and generate digital outputs that can be connected directly to a microcontroller or other digital circuit. The encoders feature a right-angle 6-pin JST PH connector for easy wiring to the motor housing and output shaft. The set includes two boards with dual-channel Hall sensors and two 10-pole magnetic discs, allowing the encoding of two 20D motors with extended shafts (motors not included). Each encoder board detects the rotation of the magnetic disc and provides 20 pulses per motor shaft revolution, counting both edges on both channels. To calculate the number of pulses per output shaft revolution of the gearbox, multiply the gear ratio by 20.
The encoder mounts directly on the back of the motor, with the motor shaft passing through a hole in the board. It is recommended to first attach the board to one motor pin, adjust its position, and then solder the second pin to avoid damaging the brushes. After soldering the board, connect the motor wires to pins M1 and M2 using the 6-pin JST PH connector. The remaining four pins provide power to the sensors and quadrature output signals. The magnetic disc is slid onto the motor shaft after the board is mounted. It should be positioned close to the sensors, but not in contact with them. The optimal position is approximately 1 mm of the shaft protruding beyond the disc surface. This set is ideal for robotics projects, control systems, and motor rotation measurement, offering precise and reliable encoding. Its compact size and lightweight design facilitate integration into prototypes and devices requiring accurate motion control.
