Ethernet extension for Arduino based on the Wiznet W5100S chip, enabling a microcontroller to connect to a LAN network via an RJ45 connector. The module supports a hardware TCP/IP stack, up to 4 simultaneous network connections, and includes a microSD card slot, communicating with Arduino through the SPI interface. DFRobot DFR0125
The DFRduino Ethernet Shield V3.0 is an expansion module that allows Arduino boards to connect to an Ethernet network. The board is based on the Wiznet W5100S network controller, which integrates a hardware TCP/IP stack, MAC controller, and Ethernet PHY, allowing network communication to be handled with minimal load on the microcontroller.
The W5100S chip supports up to four independent hardware network sockets and features a 16 KB TX/RX buffer, enabling simultaneous handling of multiple TCP or UDP connections. Communication with the microcontroller is performed via the SPI interface (ICSP). The module is equipped with an RJ45 Ethernet connector and a microSD card slot, which can be used for storing data, logs, or web server files.

The shield is compatible with popular boards such as Arduino UNO and Arduino Mega, making it suitable for building network-enabled projects including IoT devices, HTTP servers, monitoring systems, and home automation applications. The V3.0 hardware version uses the improved W5100S chip, which offers lower power consumption and higher performance compared to earlier Ethernet controller versions.
Note!
Ethernet and the microSD card share the same SPI bus, therefore the application must properly manage the CS (chip select) lines to avoid conflicts when both interfaces are used.
