TPS61169 Constant Current Boost Converter is an innovative solution for controlling LEDs in both series and parallel configurations. This module can generate voltages up to 40 V and currents up to 400 mA from a 3–5 V power supply. Unlike most standard converters that provide constant voltage, the TPS61169 regulates voltage to achieve a set current, making it ideal for LED applications. It works perfectly with our LED nOOds and filaments, where sometimes 12 V or 24 V is needed at around 200 mA. The module is also suitable for connecting multiple 3 V LEDs in series, where voltage adds up but current remains low (e.g., 25 mA or 50 mA). TPS61169 is commonly used in LED-backlit boards, often driving 5–7 white LEDs in series at about 30 mA.

The module features a built-in 1.2 A switch and automatic over-voltage protection when the output is disconnected. Additionally, the LEDs can be dimmed via a PWM input. The converter is quiet and efficient, achieving approximately 90% efficiency. Due to its constant current nature, it is not suitable for applications requiring a stable output voltage, e.g., 5 V. The output current is set using mini DIP switches, with a default of 25 mA, and each switch adds 25 mA / 50 mA / 100 mA / 200 mA, up to a total of 400 mA. The board is fully assembled and includes all necessary passive components and a small connector. Simply supply 3–5 V DC to the IN and GND pins or the screw terminal, connect the LED to the output port, and the device is ready to operate. In the case of a short or open output, power cycling may be required to exit protection mode.
