Description
Motion detection module featuring Panasonic's EKM series PIR sensor. The EKM series is optimised for detecting small movements in battery-powered applications and is ideal for detecting movement in a small area around the sensor. The PIR sensors consist of a lens to create different detection zones, an optical filter to block non-IR light, pyroelectric sensing elements, electromagnetic shielding and an impedance converter to obtain an electrical signal. The module offers a digital output in 32 zones with a detection distance of 5 m and a 90° x 90° detection area.
PIR sensors do not return specific distance data, but instead monitor infrared light from objects in their field of view and activate their signal when motion is detected within their detection area, making them ideal for applications such as automatically switching on appliances when motion is detected. Applications include home and building automation, including automatic switching on and off of lighting, security systems and IoT devices.
