Description

The SparkFun ESP32-S3 Thing Plus is an advanced and versatile development platform designed for Internet of Things (IoT) projects, enhancing the Thing Plus product line. It is equipped with the ESP32 WROOM-S3 MINI module from Espressif™, based on the Xtensa® 32-bit LX7 processor, operating at frequencies up to 240 MHz. This module supports 2.4 GHz WiFi and Bluetooth® 5 (LE) with a built-in PCB antenna. The ESP32-S3 version includes 4MB of Flash memory and 2MB of dynamic PSRAM, along with a slot for a microSD card for additional data storage.

The module offers a wide range of peripherals, including UART, I2C, SPI, LCD control, SDIO host functionality, and a TWAI® controller (compatible with ISO 11898-1, which is the CAN 2 specification). The ESP32-S3 can handle two USB ports simultaneously and can function as a USB host.

The Thing Plus development board features 21 GPIO pins from the ESP32-S3, as well as Reset and Enable signals. The available GPIO pins include twelve unassigned pins, six of which can handle analog signals, in addition to pins assigned to UART, I2C, and SPI interfaces. The board has a built-in USB Type-C connector for power and programming, a 2-pin JST connector for LiPo batteries, a microSD slot, and a Qwiic connector for integration with SparkFun’s Qwiic ecosystem. Additionally, an integrated charging circuit and status indicator allow for the charging and monitoring of the connected LiPo battery.
