It features a 16-bit ADC, fast alarm response, and an I2C interface for easy integration with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and CircuitPython. The module supports both high- and low-side measurement and automatic power calculation, and the STEMMA QT connector allows for quick, solderless installation. Adafruit 6349
INA238 DC Current Voltage Power Monitor is an advanced power monitoring IC that supports a wide range of voltages and currents. The device can measure current and voltage on both high-side and low-side with a precise 16-bit ADC, allowing accurate measurements from milliamps to amps. With the I2C interface, configuring alarms, oversampling, and gain is straightforward. The INA238 can measure currents up to 10 A or 2.75 A and voltages up to 85 V DC, while also automatically calculating power. Compared to the INA228, it offers 16-bit resolution, ±0.1% gain error, and a maximum voltage offset of ±5 µV.
The device is compatible with microcontrollers using Arduino and CircuitPython, as well as single-board computers like Raspberry Pi. It operates with 3 V or 5 V logic and can measure bus voltages up to 85 VDC, but it is not intended for AC voltages. The built-in 15 milliohm (0.015Ω) shunt resistor enables accurate current measurements on both high-side and low-side, with 0.15 mA/LSB resolution in high-current mode and 42 µA/LSB in low-current mode. High-side measurement is simplified with a factory-connected jumper from V+ to VBUS.
The module requires 3–5 VDC power and uses two I2C pins for communication. Up to four sensors can be connected on a single I2C bus using address jumpers. Additionally, the STEMMA QT connector allows easy plug-and-play installation without soldering the power and I2C lines. The INA238 offers a fast alarm response time of 75 μs and operates over a wide temperature range from -40°C to +125°C, providing power measurement accuracy better than 1%. This makes it a comprehensive solution for current, voltage, and power monitoring in electronic projects with high precision and ease of use.
