The keyboard interface built using the described controller can work in two modes. The first of these is the stand-alone mode, in which the state of a button is "rewritten" to the corresponding LED control output. In this mode, you don't need to use a microcontroller. The second mode of operation - using the I2C interface - allows communication of the microcontroller cooperating with the keyboard through the serial interface, allowing to set the sensitivity of the buttons, use the low power mode and freely (for own purposes) use seven I/O lines to control e.g. LED. Changing the operating mode requires the translation of jumpers JP1 and JP2.
