The kit includes the driver, an aluminum housing and mounting components, without a motor. Makerbase MKS SERVO57ES BUS MB
The MKS SERVO57ES BUS MB stepper motor driver from Makerbase is designed to control two-phase NEMA 23 stepper motors in closed-loop systems. The module features an STM32F302CBT6 microcontroller, a Field-Oriented Control (FOC) algorithm and a 15-bit MT6826S magnetic encoder for monitoring the actual angular position of the motor shaft. Closed-loop control enables the driver to detect positioning errors and adjust motor operation accordingly, reducing the risk of missed steps. Applications include robotics, automation, positioning mechanisms, CNC machines and drives requiring position and rotational speed control.

The MKS SERVO57ES BUS MB operates with a supply voltage of 20 V to 48 V DC and supports an operating current range of 0 A to 5.2 A. The manufacturer specifies a maximum rotational speed of 3000 rpm. The FOC algorithm provides closed-loop torque, speed and position regulation. The torque control loop operates at an update frequency of 20 kHz, while the speed and position control loops operate at 10 kHz. The driver supports relative and absolute position control, acceleration and deceleration profiles, and step subdivision interpolation up to 1/256, helping to reduce vibration during motor movement.

Communication with the host controller is provided through RS485 and CAN interfaces. The RS485 bus supports transmission rates from 9600 to 256000 bit/s, up to 255 slave addresses and a broadcast address. The CAN interface supports data rates of 125 kb/s, 250 kb/s, 500 kb/s and 1 Mb/s, with addressing for up to 2047 slave devices. Both interfaces support bus communication with multiple drivers, allowing the development of multi-axis motion control systems. The module provides CAN-H and CAN-L connections, as well as RS485 A and B signal lines through its communication connector.
The integrated 15-bit MT6826S magnetic encoder provides rotor position feedback for the control algorithm. The driver supports real-time motor position monitoring and updates, travel limit functions, and detection of motor stalls or excessive load. ALM alarm and PEND in-position signal outputs are provided, along with IN1 and IN2 inputs and an LED indicating operating status and faults. Diagnostic indication enables identification of overcurrent conditions, incorrect supply voltage, positioning errors and encoder faults. The driver also supports restoring factory settings and updating its firmware.

The driver PCB measures 52.2 x 52.2 mm and is designed for mounting on the rear of a NEMA 23 stepper motor. A screw terminal block provides connections to the motor windings through the A-, A+, B- and B+ terminals, while multipin connectors provide access to the power supply and control signals. The power stage uses HYG090ND06LS1C2 MOSFETs. The included aluminum housing and silicone thermal pad help dissipate heat generated by the power components. The kit also contains a 6 x 3 mm radial magnet, spacers, mounting screws, an LED light guide and two 50 cm signal cables. The kit does not include a stepper motor. During installation, the magnet must be correctly aligned with the encoder, the module securely mounted to the motor, and all connections checked against the manufacturer's documentation.
