Description

Seeed Studio PCIe3.0 Switch to Dual M.2 HAT for Raspberry Pi 5 expands Raspberry Pi 5 with two independent M.2 slots operating over the PCIe 3.0 interface. The module features the ASMedia ASM2806 PCIe switch, allowing a single PCIe lane from Raspberry Pi 5 to be split into two high-bandwidth endpoint devices. The solution supports connecting two NVMe SSDs for increased storage capacity, RAID configurations, SSD boot operation, or simultaneous use of storage and an AI accelerator.

The board supports NVMe M.2 devices in 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280 form factors, as well as Hailo8, Hailo8L, and Google Coral TPU accelerators using the M.2 interface. The manufacturer confirms full support for dual NVMe SSD operation and NVMe + AI configurations. Hailo8L compatibility is available exclusively for modules in the M.2 Key B+M version. The adapter mounts underneath Raspberry Pi 5 and connects using an FPC cable, leaving the 40-pin GPIO header available for simultaneous use with additional HATs or expansion modules. Additional Pogo Pin contacts provide increased power delivery required for stable operation of two M.2 devices under high data transfer loads.

Notes

  • Not all NVMe M.2 SSDs are fully compatible with Raspberry Pi 5
  • Firmware and bootloader update is recommended when booting the system from SSD
  • SATA M.2 drives are not supported
  • Official Raspberry Pi Foundation enclosure is not compatible with the HAT - the manufacturer provides a dedicated 3D-printable enclosure model
  • S-shaped FPC cable does not block access to the microSD card slot
