CAN controller module for Feather boards. It features an MCP2515 CAN controller and a TJA1051 transceiver and allows data transfer at speeds of up to 1Mb/s. Adafruit 5709
The CAN controller module for Feather boards is the perfect solution for projects requiring communication with CAN devices. It features the MCP2515 CAN controller and the TJA1051 transceiver, enabling data transfer rates of up to 1Mbps. The MCP2515 controller is an extremely popular and well-supported chipset that has drivers for Arduino and CircuitPython and only requires an SPI port and two pins for chip-select and IRQ. The module allows easy mounting of the DE-9 connector and has a built-in 120 Ohm resistor.
CAN Bus is a networking standard, originally designed for cars. It is now widely used for robots or sensor networks that need better coverage and addressing than I2C, and do not have the pins or computational capability to communicate over Ethernet. CAN is a differential 2-wire interface, which means it allows data transmission over long distances in noisy conditions. Each CAN device sends messages whenever it wants, and with data encoding, message collisions can be detected and sent later.
The converter will find use in projects requiring stable communication with multiple devices over longer distances. Full documentation and example programmes are available on the product page.
