Dual-channel GP8403 DAC breakout with 12-bit resolution and two independent 0–5V or 0–10V analog outputs controlled over I2C. The board includes a 12V / 100mA boost output, non-volatile memory, STEMMA QT / Qwiic connectors and support for 3.3V and 5V logic. Adafruit 6516
The digital-to-analog converter breakout Adafruit GP8403 Breakout Board uses the GP8403 device to generate two independent analog voltages controlled through I2C. The DAC provides 12-bit resolution and supports 0–5V or 0–10V output ranges. The module can be used for reference-voltage generation, analog control inputs, operational amplifier circuits and devices requiring control voltages above standard 3.3V or 5V logic levels.
An integrated boost converter generates 12V, which is also available as an auxiliary output capable of supplying approximately 100mA. Each DAC channel can generate a 0–5V or 0–10V output from a digital value between 0x000 and 0xFFF. Typical output voltage error is 0.2%, while typical linearity error is 0.1%.
Three address jumpers, A0, A1 and A2, allow up to 8 modules to share one I2C bus, providing as many as 16 analog outputs. The board supports both 3.3V and 5V logic. Two STEMMA QT / Qwiic connectors provide solderless I2C connection, while a 4-pin 2.5mm terminal block provides access to the outputs.
The GP8403 includes non-volatile memory, allowing the device to start with a previously stored output-voltage setting. Writing the NVM requires bit-banging of the I2C lines, so compatibility of this function should be verified for the target platform. Arduino and Python/CircuitPython libraries and examples are available from Adafruit.
The DAC outputs include 10µF capacitors, making the module better suited for control voltages, bias generation and slowly changing analog signals than for generating high-speed periodic waveforms. The device also includes output short-circuit protection.
